Capri was founded in 1966 in the heart of Randburg, South Africa, by Gert Brits and Willah Brits (Marais). The name Capri was decided on by Willah after they visited the beautiful Capri Islands in Italy.
Willah bought fabric and designed her own patterns and linen while Gert sold the household linen out of the boot of his car for a salary of R15 /month.
Over the next 15 years the company grew from strength to strength and Gert built and moved into one of the first 800sqm buildings in Strijdompark, Randburg in 1981.
In the 1980’s Capri started expanding the product range into the kitchen and between 1987 – 1991, Gert opened four new companies namely, T&G Exclusive Creations, Hollywood Household Supplies, VIP Imports and Ciskei Household Supplies.
In December 2007, Mr. Brits passed away and handed the company over to his children. His eldest daughter, Qume Eksteen, became the new CEO of the company.
In 2009, Capri opened a new company in Botswana.
In 2013, Mrs. Eksteen merged all of the companies to one new company by the name of Capri Exclusive Homeware and opened a new company in Namibia.
In 2016, Capri celebrated the 50th anniversary of the company – something not many family businesses can claim.
In 2020, Qume Eksteen and her 2 sons bought the company from the rest of Gert Brits’s children.
Today, Capri is a well established company with over 200 people representing our company in over three different countries in Africa. We have a wide variety of homeware products available, and we are planning to expand our range even more within the next two years, as our goal is to provide every family with the top quality homeware products that they deserve.
